Rejuvenating the Concept of MARRIAGE

Imagine what would happen if you are told to wear the same kind of clothes in winter as you wear in summer- thin, light etc. Probably you might end up catching a cold.  The same is the case with social institutions. The change in contemporary situations necessitates the need for change.   The institution of marriage traditionally considered eternal and sacrosanct in Hindus had no concept of divorce. But over the time, it evolved to include provisions inculcating the same.   The concept of individuality and personal liberty have emerged as prominent ones. It is no longer a social obligation towards the society or ancestral obligation. The economic reasons for marrying are losing their significance because now even women are becoming financially independent and hence, marrying for gaining financial stability is not that a plausible reason as it was earlier. Now, it is more of a union of two heterosexual people in an institution for cohabitation, satisfaction of sexual needs...

THE AUTOCRAT WITHIN

Whimsy. Paranoid. Insensitive. Dumb. Incapable etc. these are some terms we often use for 'people'. But what are 'we'?  We often overlook the autocrat within us. That might sound strange, so let's get to the basics - Who is an autocrat?  The Cambridge Dictionary defines autocrat as 'a  ruler  with  unlimited   power , or someone who  demands  that  people   completely   obey  them'. We constantly judge people, including ourselves from the lens of the society. 'We' in this entire piece of writing largely refers to 'us' as the society, whereas 'WE' is used in the layman sense. External validation is important for human beings. But the question is -What is deemed Valid? Not being too much? For must of us, that 'Valid' means being able to achieve SUCCESS. Because of this extra importance to validity, we are unprepared to encounter failures, inasmuch as WE tend to lose out self-esteem and tread towards path of depression etc. Also...
